  1. So true: the Zombie Virus Apocalypse will be over before the first revision of the project proposal goes through.

    2. I'm hiding my identity, but I'll not that my husband is a tenured professor operating on no sleep today because it's the grant application deadline. Sure, grad students sometimes write grant apps. Not for the big ones.

    4. Well, I don't know in the US, but in Europe (or at least in France & Spain) a tenure is not exactly the boss.

And yes, almost everybody has his role in writing gps. But at the end the task of the boss is to review them and ask for improvements and corrections. The boring and hard part of the job is mostly done by postdocs.

Again, based on what I've lived, not aimimg to make an universal statement...

    5. yes, bosses take the credit, post and/or predocs write the grants, even the "big ones": Bosses writing overnight, are bosses that has no people in their labs. Period.

  4. re@ Spaniard. Not in France, at least in NLP, I've never seen a postdoc writing an application for the ANR. Never. I've heard of stories about some people taking inspiration from their students' work without correctly acknowledging them but that's it. But it's common rule in Ireland (postdoc can write their own research project and get their own funding. Not here)
